Weekly Update October 28 to November 3

Hello Everyone

Many thanks to the cadets and parents who have signed up for Poppy Distribution tomorrow at the Belleville Legion.

Just a reminder that the dress is C1 (dress uniform) or if you are missing any pieces to this uniform, C5 Field Training Uniform.  If your cadet is new and has not been issued a uniform, then their "Sunday Best" outfit is appropriate.  No ripped jeans, no t-shirt with graphics, hair combed.

You are representing not only the Royal Canadian Legion but also your cadet unit, and we want to be respectful in public.

I would like to take this time to explain parent involvement with activities such as this.  Changes occur over the years, and we have lots of new families, so now is a good time to review the policy:

Officers cannot drive or pick up cadets to or from tagging, or poppy locations.  If your cadet is going to participate in an activity where they need to go from Point A to Point B, then we will require you the parent to assist with getting your cadet to and from the main location. If you cannot, for whatever reason, be available for one or both legs of the event, then we would be happy to assist you with coordinating with another parent to carpool.

We are now approaching the Remembrance Day season where we take time to remember and honour those who have served our country both in war and in peacetime, in the past and in the present.  We have several activities coming up where 2818 cadets can participate and complete community service hours:Sat Oct 26:  Poppy Distribution with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 99 on Highland Ave from 8:30 to 12:00 noon.  Parents will be required to help drive their cadets to their locations and return them with their poppy boxes to the Legion.  We have a couple of cadets who have expressed their commitment however we need many more.  Dress is C1 (Dress uniform) or FTU in lieu of C1.  Even if your cadet has not formally signed up, they can still show up Saturday morning and participate.

Sat Nov 9:  No Stone Left Alone, Belleville Cemetery 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm with 608 Belleville Air Cadets.  We will be honouring those who are buried there - close to 350 people at this site alone.  Dress is C1 (dress uniform) or FTU in lieu of C1.  If your cadet does not have a uniform yet, then respectful appropriate clothing ("Sunday Best") is fine.

Mon Nov 11:  Remembrance Day service at Belleville Cenotaph 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.  Dress is C1 or FTU in lieu of C1.

Royal Canadian Legion Education Program:  several weeks ago, I sent an email where cadets can write an essay or poem or draw a picture and submit to a contest with cash prizes.  Several cadets have expressed interest - please submit your entries soon.  If anyone has any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

We are continuing to update files through the Annual Validation forms, Detailed Health Questionnaires, and OHIP card updates.  If your cadet's file is still open in any of these areas, please expect a phone call from one of our staff, as we need to update their file before November 1.

If your cadet is not returning to training this year, please advise and return all uniforms and parts to the corps asap.
